Meet The Team
Gary Muhammad
Gary Muhammad, the President of SDC Group, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his role. With certifications as both an OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 Instructor and experience in safety inspections for state and federal jobs, he has a strong foundation in workplace safety standards, making him well-equipped to guide operations effectively. His extensive management background includes over three decades in the restaurant industry, where he served as General Manager at prominent chains such as Hardee’s, McDonald’s, Western Sizzlin, and Taco Bell. His tenure in these roles ranged from six to ten years at each establishment, providing him with deep insights into the challenges and demands of restaurant management. Since 2012, Gary has worked as a consultant, specializing in customer service training and management, further honing his leadership abilities and business acumen.
In his current capacity, Gary is responsible for collaborating with shareholders to shape and implement SDC Group’s strategic direction. His duties encompass overseeing financial planning, budgeting, and reporting, ensuring the company operates efficiently and effectively. He is also instrumental in streamlining operations to enhance overall performance. In addition to managing the company’s internal processes, Gary plays a key role in maintaining relationships with stakeholders, partners, and clients, ensuring that the company’s goals align with the expectations of its various constituencies. His ability to report on the company’s performance and contribute to its long-term success is a testament to his leadership and operational expertise.
Jelani Howard
Jelani Howard serves as the Chief Information Officer at SDC Group, bringing a robust background and extensive experience to the role. Jelani earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of the West Indies, graduating in 2018. His professional journey began as a Customer Service Representative at Western Union in 2015. He then transitioned to Winchester MRI, where he excelled as a Customer Care Representative and Front Desk Agent from March to November 2019, before advancing to the position of IT Technician and Operations Coordinator, a role he held until March 2023. Jelani is currently furthering his expertise by pursuing a Master’s degree in Information Systems at Virginia Commonwealth University and then continuing to his PhD. in Information Systems thereafter
In his current role, Jelani is responsible for overseeing the organization’s information technology strategy and ensuring that technology systems and processes align with business goals as well as developing detailed project plans, which include timelines, milestones, and resource allocation. Jelani manages IT operations, lead digital transformation initiatives, and ensure the security and efficiency of data management systems and maintains comprehensive project documentation. As CIO, he plays a critical role in managing IT budgets and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards. His strategic approach to developing and implementing IT strategies ensures efficient and effective processes that comply with these industry regulations and standards, driving the business towards its goals.
Sylvester Clay
Sylvester Clay is an accomplished business consultant with over 40 years of diverse experience in both the domestic and international markets. A graduate of Commonwealth Christian School in 1986 and Carson Newman College in 1990, Clay has established a strong reputation in the business world, particularly in the construction and development sectors. His accolades include being named National Parade of Homes Builder of the Year, SWAM and MBE Contractor of the Year, and CEO of the Year for small businesses. In addition to his extensive work in real estate, where he developed homes in both Costa Rica and Brazil, he has also made his mark in the tech industry by starting a company in Brazil. Clay’s business ventures have spanned multiple industries, including architectural ceramics, where he was a million-dollar top producer, and hospitality, having owned five different pizzerias and tanning salons.
Clay’s expertise extends far beyond entrepreneurship. He holds a Class A Builder’s License and has successfully taken companies from zero to a $40 million bonding capacity. Throughout his career, he has been involved in 10 different start-ups and even launched his own private label paint company. Beyond business, Clay has contributed to the athletic world as a college basketball coach for 12 years and is an international motivational speaker. His vast experience allows him to offer a wide range of consulting services, from conducting thorough assessments of business operations and strategies to developing comprehensive plans to drive success. By analyzing financial statements, providing market insights, and establishing key performance indicators, Clay helps companies stay competitive and achieve measurable growth.
